Ruth Roman was born on June 22nd, 1939, on June 22, 1939 in Lynn Massachusetts. She is the youngest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. As a young girl the carnival barker father passed away, leaving Ruth's mother no option but to become a cleaner girl and waitress to support her family. Ruth was raised in the poor Boston tenement neighborhood, Massachusetts. She was a student there. After only two school years the young woman left to pursue an acting profession. This was not an easy path to follow. Although she got an interview as a hat check girl in New York posing as a writer for a mystery publication however, there were no theatre opportunities that were offered to her. After working as a hat-check woman in a nightclub she quit and returned to Boston. There, she made the ends meet by working with her ushering duties throughout the day, and in the evening, she performed with the New England Repertory Company, the first job she had that was steady. Also, she studied drama. She later graduated from the Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
